According to journalist Fernando Czyz, Spurs chief Levy has offered a new and lucrative deal to the Albiceleste star, but Romero is likely to reject it. It is now up to Levy to make the final call on whether to make the sale in the summer transfer window.

The Argentine journalist further claimed that Atletico Madrid are offering a fee in the region of €55m plus €10m and would be willing to increase the bonus amount by another €5m. However, journalist Ruben Uria has claimed the north London club value the defender at €82 million (£70m/$96m).
